The PCC operates at no cost to taxpayers or to those who complain - thanks to the significant financial commitment of the newspaper and magazine publishing industry to effective self regulation.

The Commission is funded by the Press Standards Board of Finance (Pressbof) which is an independent body charged with collecting registration fees from across the entire industry.

Tabulated below are extracts from the PCC's audited accounts for 1995 and 1996, detailing main areas of expenditure, and taken from the Commission's statutory accounts

The Statutory Accounts, in the format required by the Companies Act 1985 and including the auditors' reports which were unqualified, are lodged with the Registrar of Companies.
