financial review

Unlike
in a legal system the PCC operates at no cost to those who complain.
Similarly, it is no burden on taxpayers - thanks to the significant
financial commitment of the newspaper and magazine publishing
industry to effective self regulation.
The
Commission is funded by the Press Standards Board of Finance
- or Pressbof - which is an independent body charged with
collecting registration fees from across the entire industry.
Tabulated
on this page are extracts from the PCC's accounts detailing
the main areas of expenditure. The 1996 figures have been
extracted from the Commission's statutory accounts. These
statutory accounts in the format required by the Companies
Act 1985 and including the auditor's report, which is unqualified,
are lodged with the Registrar of Companies.
