Complainant Name:
The Rt Hon Nicholas Brown MP

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: The Sunday Times

The Rt Hon Nicholas Brown MP complained through solicitors Norton Rose, of London EC3, that an article headlined Labour whip feuds with his friends in the North was misleading in questioning his reasons for supporting a local supermarket project in his constituency. He also objected to claims that he had in the past asked for council grants on behalf of a local scrap metal company.

The matter was resolved when the newspaper published a letter from the complainant setting out his reasons for supporting the supermarket project and his denial that he had asked for council grants on behalf of the scrap metal company. The letter was followed by a note stating that, in their article, the newspaper had not meant to suggest any wrongdoing on the complainants part.
