Complainant Name:
Mr P M Fairweather

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: Scottish Daily Mirror

Complaint:
Mr P M Fairweather, Factor of Argyll Estates, complained that a report of the death of Ian Campbell, 12th Duke of Argyll, had erroneously confused the 12th Duke with his father by insensitively referring to the latter’s divorce case in 1963. Mr Fairweather complained further that the error had been compounded when, in a subsequent edition, the newspaper accidentally published a photograph taken at the 12th Duke’s funeral and captioned it ‘SCRAP: Wolfie fights pig’.

Resolution:
The newspaper published a correction to the initial report before receipt of Mr Fairweather’s letter and the Editor then wrote to the complainant to offer sincere apologies to the family of Ian Campbell, 12th Duke of Argyll, for their errors.

Report: 55
