Complainant Name:
Ms Nancy Kirui, the Kenyan High Commissioner in London

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: The Sunday Times

Complaint:
Ms Nancy Kirui, the Kenyan High Commissioner in London, complained that an article was inaccurate in suggesting that a visit to Kenya by the Queen had been ‘floated’ by President Moi and rejected by the UK Government. Moreover, Prince and Princess Michael of Kent had not ‘refused’ an invitation to have tea with President Moi - they had been unable to accept the invitation for simple reasons of time.

Resolution:
The newspaper published a correction, which indicated that as far as the High Commission was concerned there was no truth in the suggestion that President Moi had ‘floated’ the idea of a visit by the Queen. The statement also clarified that Prince and Princess Michael of Kent had been unable to meet President Moi simply due to a lack of time.

Report: 59
