Complainant Name:
Mr F E B Witts

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: The Sunday Telegraph

Complaint:
Mr F E B Witts of Upper Slaughter, Gloucestershire complained that an article, which discussed the published diary of his great-great-grandfather Reverend F E Witts (1783-1854), was inaccurate in its assertion as to some of the activities that his forebear had undertaken in his role as county magistrate. In particular, the diary at no stage recorded that Reverend Witts had ‘ordered unmarried mothers to be whipped’ as claimed in the article.

Resolution:
The newspaper published a correction on the central point of complaint.
