Complainant Name:
Mr Gerry Tissier

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: The Guardian

Mr Gerry Tissier, the head of Media Relations for the NSPCC, complained that the newspaper had reported inaccurate claims that he had 'intervened' as a character witness in the trial of a man accused of indecent assault. It also reported an account of evidence which he gave in court. In fact, he was requested to appear, or face being summonsed, and did not make the statement attributed to him in the article. The newspaper also reported the fact of the complainant's suspension from the NSPCC regarding this matter, but did not subsequently report that he was cleared of any fault and fully reinstated.

The complaint was resolved when the newspaper, prior to confirmation of the PCC investigation, published a correction and an apology.
