Complainant Name:
Mr Barry Williams

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: The Times

Complaint:
Mr Barry Williams of Stourbridge complained that the newspaper had inaccurately suggested that he and his partner Mr Brian Watts had argued on the evening in which Mr Watts jumped from a cliff and that the incident had been caused by a ‘lovers’ tiff’. The complainant provided a Statutory Declaration to the newspaper – having had to engage in previous correspondence on the subject – that affirmed that the story was inaccurate and that explained differently about the incident.

Resolution:
The complaint was resolved when the newspaper accepted that its story was at variance with the facts and apologised to the complainant.

Report: 66
