Complainant Name:
HRH Prince William of Wales

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: The Mail on Sunday

HRH Prince William of Wales complained, through Harbottle & Lewis solicitors, that the newspaper had published two inaccurate articles in consecutive weeks. The first suggested that he had killed a wild deer in Kenya; the second that he had previously killed a deer in Chile with a tranquiliser dart. He made clear that neither incident took place. He was also concerned that the newspaper had failed to contact his representative in advance of the publication of the first article and that the second article repeated the initial allegation, despite the denials made immediately following publication.

The complaint was resolved when the newspaper published an apology, which accepted that neither incident took place and that it should have contacted the complainant in advance of publication of the first article.
