Complainant Name:
Mrs Alicia Rae

Clauses Noted: 1, 3

Publication: Scottish Sun

Mrs Alicia Rae of Crieff complained on behalf and with the signed authorisation of her son that an article in the newspapers Scottish edition, regarding the latters appeal against his conviction for assaulting a former partner, was inaccurate. She also complained that it included a photograph that intruded into her own privacy.

The part of the complaint relating to alleged inaccuracy was resolved when the newspaper published a clarification. With regard to the photograph, although the newspaper offered to apologise directly and removed the image from its files, the complainant remained unhappy since the newspaper would not publish an apology. She decided, however, not to pursue that part of the complaint further insofar as the Commission was involved.
