Complainant Name:
Mr Edward Fitzmaurice

Clauses Noted: 1, 3

Publication: The Sunday Times

Complaint:
Mr Edward Fitzmaurice of Hampstead complained that the articles which reported on the renovation of his house contained inaccurate financial figures. The newspaper had offered to publish a correction with the stipulation that it included the correct figures. The complainant was unwilling to provide the correct figures as they were the subject of a legal dispute. He also raised concerns that the photographs used in the articles were taken from his architect’s website without his permission.

Resolution:
The complaint was resolved when the newspaper wrote to the complainant and apologised if the use of the photographs was inappropriate. The managing editor also acknowledged that the published figures regarding the refurbishment of the complainant's property were inaccurate. The complainant accepted his complaint as resolved on the basis that the PCC's public record would reflect the newspaper's acknowledgement.

Report: 71
