Complainant Name:
The Earl of Bradford

Clauses Noted: 1, 3, 4

Publication: The Mail on Sunday

The Earl of Bradford complained that an article included comments he had provided off the record and presented them as an exclusive interview. In fact, the comments had been made simply to explain to the journalist why he did not wish to speak to the media. He also complained that the newspaper had contacted him after he had previously told another of its reporters that he had no wish to comment. In addition, he expressed concern at the inclusion of a photograph of his property.

The matter was resolved when the newspaper agreed to tag its archive files with the complainants concerns and remove the article from external databases and websites under its control. In addition, the journalist responsible for the article wrote personally to the complainant to apologise for the distress that had been caused to him.
