Ken Livingstone, the Mayor of London, complained that the newspaper had reported that African boys were being sacrificed in Londons churches. While these allegations had been contained in a report presented to the Metropolitan police, they had not been substantiated by police or proven as fact.

The complaint was resolved when the newspaper published an agreed clarification.
