Complainant Name:
Dr Nicholas Fenwick of the Farmersí Union of Wales

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: The Mail on Sunday

Dr Nicholas Fenwick of the Farmersí Union of Wales complained that a statement in a column written by Carole Caplin which stated that most dairy farmers had no choice but to produce milk as cheaply as possible and filled their cows with growth hormones was untrue as the administration of growth hormones was illegal. Similarly, the insinuation that a significant proportion of milk contained antibiotics was inaccurate as strict guidelines and testing ensured that no antibiotic residues were present in retail milk.

The newspaper wrote to the complainant and explained that it had received a number of complaints following the articleís publication. It therefore published a number of letters addressing the various points raised and, furthermore, an apology was published.
