Complainant Name:
The Deputy Prime Minister, John Prescott MP

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: The Sun

The Deputy Prime Minister, John Prescott MP, complained that an article was inaccurate in suggesting he had referred to Muslim cleric Omar Bakri as being welcome to return to the UK.

The matter was resolved when the newspaper published a statement which read as follows: On 10 August we reported John Prescotts statement that hate cleric Omar Bakri was legally free to come and go from the UK as he wished. In doing so we added that the Deputy Prime Minister had said that Bakri was welcome to return. Mr Prescott has asked us to make clear, and we accept, that he expressed no desire to see Mr Bakri come back to this country. Indeed, he had hoped that Bakris holiday would be a long one. We regret causing any difficulties.
