Complainant Name:
Mr A R Hardwick

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: South East Farmer

Mr A R Hardwick of Ashford complained that the article which reported Mr Quinns decision to leave the Assured Combinable Crop Scheme contained a number of inaccuracies. Specifically, the complainant contended that he had not harassed Mr Quinn, as the article had set out, nor had he made any recommendations regarding farm cats, barn owls or pesticides. Mr Hardwick also explained that he had not visited Mr Quinn's farm since 2004, and contended that the normal price for verifying a farm of Mr Quinns size was 130 and not 250.

The complaint was resolved when the magazine published a clarification making clear that Mr Hardwick had contacted Mr Quinn four times by telephone all at his own request and had written to him once in his attempts to arrange a verification visit. The clarification also pointed out that the complainant had not made any recommendations to Mr Quinn regarding farm cats, barn owls or pesticides, and that the normal price for verification of a farm the size of Mr Quinns was 130. It further emphasised that Mr Hardwick had declined to comment prior to publication of the original article due to his contract ensuring confidentiality to all scheme participants.
