Publication: The Daily Telegraph

Steve Mayner, Head of Public Affairs for Wandsworth Council, complained that an article about a couple and their severely disabled children was misleading in that it failed to give a full account of assistance given to the family by the Council.

The newspaper published a clarification, which read: On 8 March (We just had to go to sea) we described the experiences of Michael and Henrietta Spink who had lost an appeal aimed at forcing their local council (Wandsworth) to pay the costs of making necessary adjustments to their home for their two severely disabled children. In the article we stated that the Spinks had only ever received two plastic cups and a loo seat from the council. Although the Spinks consider that it has been a struggle to get any appropriate support from their local authority, Wandsworth Council has asked us to clarify that it provided over 60,000 a year to the family in domiciliary support.
