Complainant Name:
Mrs Irene Stanley

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: The Sunday Telegraph

Mrs Irene Stanley complained through Hickman & Rose Solicitors that an article on the death of her husband Harry Stanley was inaccurate when it asserted that a relative of Mr Stanley had given a statement to Surrey Police claiming that he had "wanted to die".

The complaint was resolved when the newspaper sent a private letter of apology to the complainant which accepted that no relative had ever made such a statement. The letter also made clear that Surrey Police did investigate a similar claim from a witness who was not a relative but concluded that there was no foundation to the theory.

Report: 72
