Complainant Name:
Mr Patrick Harrison

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: The Times

Mr Patrick Harrison, the Press Secretary to TRH The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall, complained that the newspaper had illustrated an article on the teaching of ethics at Sandhurst with a photograph of a tortured prisoner at Abu Ghraib prison framed by photographs of Princes William and Harry in military attire. He considered this use of the images to be misleading and offensive, as it unnecessarily associated the two princes with prisoner abuse at an American prison, something to which they had no connection whatsoever.

The complaint was resolved when the newspaper published a letter from the complainant, containing his robust criticism of the composition of the article. It also wrote privately, explaining the rationale behind its use of the images, confirming that it acknowledged his concerns and apologising for the distress it had caused.
