Complainant Name:
Ms Bridget McConnell

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: Scottish Mail on Sunday

Ms Bridget McConnell complained, through Levy & McRae solicitors, that an article on the subject of her visit to Melbourne, to boost Scotlands bid for the 2014 Commonwealth games, contained inaccuracies. In particular, the newspaper had wrongly claimed her job previous to her new role as Executive Director (Culture and Sport) of Glasgow Council did not contain a sporting brief.

The complaint was resolved when the newspaper published the following apology: "On February 12 we reported that Bridget McConnell, Glasgow City Council's Executive Director of Culture and Sport, was travelling to Australia to support Glasgow's bid to host the 2014 Commonwealth Games. Our article incorrectly stated that Mrs McConnell's previous job, Director of Leisure Services, did not include a sporting brief. In fact she was responsible, for many years, for the city's swimming pools and sports centres as well as staging various national and international sports events. We apologise to Mrs McConnell."
