Complainant Name:
Derek Watson, Chief Executive of The Dental Practitioners’ Association

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: The Sunday Times

Complaint:
Derek Watson, Chief Executive of The Dental Practitioners’ Association, complained that an article had inaccurately suggested that NHS dentists earned salaries of £250,000 when this figure actually referred to a top earning practice before overheads had been taken into account. He also pointed out that dentists had to maintain a minimal level of activity with the NHS in order to retain their NHS contract, rather than their place on the Dentists’ Register as the article stated.

Resolution:
The complaint was resolved when the newspaper published a correction, in addition to a letter which it had previously carried which covered the issues raised by the complainant.

Report: 72
