Complainant Name:
Mr and Mrs Gammons

Clauses Noted: 1, 3

Publication: Daily Star Sunday

Mr and Mrs Gammons of Lincolnshire complained that an article reporting that Mr Gammons had developed a shopping addiction after receiving a kidney from his wife was, for the most part, made up having been cobbled together from two articles in the local press. The complainants were also upset at the publication of a photograph of their family without permission.

The complaint was resolved when the newspaper agreed to take the following action: to annotate its records to reflect all the concerns raised by the complainants, including every disputed point and quotation; to undertake not to publish the photograph again; to undertake not to republish the article or to sell the article to other publications. The newspaper also made the offer of a published apology but this was declined by the complainants.

The complainants finally asked for reference to be made to the website.
