Complainant Name:
Mr Patrick David Whelan

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: South London Mercury

Mr Patrick David Whelan of Greenwich complained that an article reporting on his daughters death inaccurately suggested that he had shunned her just before her death. In fact, the complainant said that he had seen her a week before her death and, although he did not speak to her, he did not shun her as he would never shun any of his children.

The complaint was resolved when the editor of the newspaper wrote to the complainant privately and expressed her regret that the article had caused him further distress.
