Complainant Name:
Peter Everden

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: The Sunday Times

Complaint:

Peter Everden of Kent complained that the newspaper had reported an allegation concerning his business dealings which had then been unreservedly withdrawn. He said that the reporting of the claim had left him unemployable.

Resolution:

The complaint was resolved when the newspaper published a clarification making clear that the allegations against the complainant had been withdrawn. The wording for this was as follows: Correction : A Prufrock item “Small earthquake hits tower tycoon” (Business, August 13) stated that a creditor of one of Peter Everden’s previous companies had lodged a complaint relating to him with the Department of Trade and Industry alleging a “pattern of behaviour” at the company and other associated companies that “we believe…may go beyond the civil law”. We now understand that the individual has unreservedly withdrawn the complaint, accepting the mistake and apologising, we are therefore happy to set the record straight.
