Complainant Name:
Ms Naomi Campbell

Clauses Noted: 1, 3

Publication: The Sun

Ms Naomi Campbell, the well-known model, complained that the newspaper had inaccurately alleged that she had been involved in an argument with a photographer and then an altercation with the chef on board a yacht that led to a considerable amount of damage. She was also concerned that her photograph had been taken in a place where she had a reasonable expectation of privacy.

The complaint was resolved when the newspaper undertook not to republish the allegations or photographs and published the following apology: On July 17 we carried reports from the Italian media that Naomi Campbell had an argument with a photographer and a yachts chef while sailing in Italy, accompanied by a photograph of Ms Campbell on the yacht. We have been asked to make clear that Ms Campbell did not have an altercation with either person, did not cause £30,000 of damage nor trash the boat in any way and none of the staff were forced to duck for cover. We are happy to set the record straight and apologise to Ms Campbell and have agreed not to republish this photograph.
