Complainant Name:
Ms Joy Keating

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: Chiropody Review

Complaint:

Ms Joy Keating complained that the magazine had – in its report of a presentation on biomechanics – published the claim that “because of their lower leg anatomy, Afro-Caribbean people cannot achieve a 10 degree dorsiflexion”.

Resolution:

The complaint was resolved when the magazine, which accepted that the report (which had been published in good faith) was not an accurate reflection of what had been said, placed the complainant in contact with the person who had given the presentation. He explained that he had not made the reported claim about Afro-Caribbean people and invited the complainant to another presentation, free of charge. The magazine also published an apology for any offence caused by the report.

Report: 73
