Clauses Noted: 1, 6

Publication: Rotherham Advertiser

Ms Nicola Davis of Rotherham complained that the newspaper had published a photograph of school children (including her son) in the town centre to illustrate an article that revealed how the school had insufficient capacity to accommodate all of the pupils at lunchtime. She was concerned that the newspaper had suggested that her son, and the other pupils, were misbehaving in the town, which was not the case.

The complaint was resolved when the newspaper published the following apology:

The Rotherham Advertiser, dated October 6, carried reports and photographs relating to students at Maltby Comprehensive School seeking to purchase lunch at High Street takeaways and fast food outlets. We wish to make it clear that the reports, photographs and headlines were not intended to imply that the students were behaving improperly and wish to apologise if that was the impression given.
