Complainant Name:
Mr Philip Hamilton

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: Sunday World

Complaint:

Mr Philip Hamilton complained that the newspaper had published a photograph of a social club – at which four UVF men were “stood down” during a meeting – in the foreground of which was his taxi (with the registration number visible). He made clear that he had no connection to the events described in the article.

Resolution:

The complaint was resolved when the newspaper undertook to destroy the photograph and published the following clarification:

“In a story on February 4 last we published a photograph of the Monkstown Social Club with Philip Hamilton's taxi parked at the front door. Mr. Hamilton has asked us to make it clear he is not associated with any of the events reported in the story.”

Report: 74
