Complainant Name:
Jacobs Certified Bailiffs

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: Sunday Mirror

Mr David Cornes complained on behalf of Jacobs Certified Bailiffs that an article had inaccurately alleged that bailiffs had hounded a mother for money she did not owe, and threatened to remove her goods. In fact, Mr Cornes contended that the company was pursuing the individuals son, and had made clear that it was his goods which would be removed if the debt was not paid. The complainant was also concerned that the company had not been given sufficient opportunity to respond to the allegations prior to publication.

Although the newspaper did not accept the complainants position, the complaint was resolved when the newspaper annotated its electronic records with Jacobs denial that it threatened to take away the mothers goods to cover her sons debt.
