Publication: Daily Mail

Complaint:

Steve Pierpoint of Rotherham and Mike Blackshaw of Wolverhampton complained that an article had inaccurately claimed that the newspaper had led a “grassroots revolt” that had forced ministers to abandon plans to require sellers of houses to provide a Home Information Pack (HIP) before putting their houses on the market. The complainant said that HIPs had not been abandoned, and were due to come into force on 01 June 2007.

Resolution:

The newspaper said that it was widely believed that the government had stripped out the most contentious parts of the legislation, and that a watered down version was to be introduced in June. The newspaper published a follow-up article addressing the points raised in the complaint and it was resolved on this basis.
