Mr Darren Lawrenson complained that an article about the tragic death of his daughter, Ellie Lawrenson, who was killed by her uncle’s dog on New Year’s Eve, contained a number of inaccuracies.

The complaint was resolved when the newspaper marked its internal records with the points raised by the complainant, removed the article from its website and published the following letter from him:

“It is suggested (Mail) that I was seen ‘chatting - and at one point laughing’ in a car with Kiel Simpson four days after my daughter, Ellie, was killed by the dog he owned. I vigorously deny laughing at that time. I had just lost the most precious person to me in the whole world and had no reason at all to laugh at what was an incredibly difficult time”.
