Complainant Name:
A woman

Clauses Noted: 3, 5, 8

Publication: The Independent

A woman complained that a photograph of her receiving medical attention after she had been shot at a tourist site in Jordan had been published without consent and had intruded into her privacy at a time of shock in breach of Clause 3 (Privacy) and Clause 5 (Intrusion into grief or shock). The complainant also raised concerns under Clause 8 (Hospitals).

The complaint was resolved when the newspaper which did not name the complainant and did not consider that the Code had been breached wrote a private letter to the complainant which expressed its sympathy for the distress caused by her being pictured in the media coverage of the incident.
