A woman complained that the newspaper had published a photograph of her son in which it misidentified him as stabbing victim Ben Hitchcock. The son of the complainant had no connection to the incident in which Ben was stabbed.

The complaint was resolved when the newspaper published the following apology:

In our June 26 report headed "Pal's Web Tribute to Murdered Ben" a photograph on the top left hand corner of page 9 misidentified the person on the right as stabbing victim Ben Hitchcock. It is in fact of another boy who was not at the scene of the incident. We apologise to the boy and his family for any embarrassment and distress the picture which was supplied by an agency has caused him. The newspaper also sent the complainant a private letter of apology.
