A woman complained that the newspaper had published a photograph of her son in which it misidentified him as stabbing victim Ben Hitchcock. The son of the complainant had no connection to the incident in which Ben was stabbed.


The complaint was resolved when the newspaper published the following apology:

On June 26 we published a picture identified as murder victim Ben Hitchcock. In fact, due to an error by a normally reliable agency who supplied the image to The Sun and other newspapers, we accidentally pictured one of Bens school friends who was not involved. We apologise for the error. The newspaper also sent the complainant a private letter of apology.
