Complainant Name:
Dr Maggie Gee

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: Daily Mirror

Complaint:

Dr Maggie Gee of London complained that a front page headline claiming that Arthur Batchelor had spent three days naked in solitary while being held hostage in Iran was not substantiated by the story inside the newspaper, which had merely referred to Mr Batchelor being stripped on arrival at a new jail.

Resolution:

The complaint was resolved when the newspaper published the following clarification:

In our first edition (April 9, 2007) we published a headline that said Arthur Batchelor had spent three days naked in solitary confinement having been captured by Iranian soldiers. Mr Batchelor was held for three days in solitary but was not naked. Subsequent editions accurately reflected this fact.
