Publication: Daily Mirror

Complaint:

Mr Christopher Bullock, Chairman of Trustees at The Gurkha Museum, complained that an article had inaccurately claimed that Hon Lieutenant Tulbahadur Pun’s Victoria Cross medal group was taken from him for ‘safe keeping’. In fact, the medal had been purchased from Mr Pun in 1975, and gifted to the museum. The article had also suggested that Mr Pun had asked to hold his medal, which was not the case. Indeed, the complainant said that no one had heard him say that he wanted the medal back.

Resolution:

The complaint was resolved when the newspaper sent a letter to the complainant, indicating that – while it did not dispute his account as to how the medal came into the museum’s possession – Mr Pun’s views on the matter had been accurately expressed. While disappointed, the complainant accepted this as a resolution to his complaint.
