Mrs Mary Karaolis, President of the Association of Rizokarpasso, complained that a travel article about occupied northern Cyprus had misrepresented the reality of the situation in the Karpas Peninsula, and in particular the village of Rizokarpasso, which had been referred to as Dipkarpaz in the article. She emphasised that, contrary to the impression created, before the Turkish invasion of 1974 Rizokarpasso had been a totally Greek Cypriot village; Turkish settlers had been illegally imposed since 1974.

The complaint was resolved when the newspaper published the following letter from the complainant:

'Our Association was appalled by your reference to Rizokarpasso as "Dipkarpaz" in your travel article about Cyprus (5 March). You have misrepresented the reality: Rizokarpasso was a Greek Cypriot village of over 3,000 people prior to the Turkish invasion in 1974; the Greek population has now been reduced to 264. Anatolian settlers have been transported to Rizokarpasso to colonize the area; currently the homes of Greek Cypriots are being demolished. Andrew Dismore MP, who visited Rizokarpasso in 2006, confirmed the appalling reality of the situation. The only fair solution is the withdrawal of the occupying Turkish troops and illegal settlers.'
