Kirsten Spencer of County Durham complained that, following an inaccurate press report in another newspaper about the murder of her neighbour, she had received a number of calls from the newspaper asking for her comments.

The newspaper said that after it heard of the complainants concerns, its reporter had telephoned her to apologise. The same reporter then left a message asking for comments about the murder trial on her answer phone. The editor said he was happy to undertake that none of his staff would contact the complainant in the future. The complaint was resolved on this basis.
