Complaint:

Mr Philip Barnes of Dursley complained that an article about the increase in household bills had misleadingly implied that costs had gone up £870 each year; in fact, the increase had been over a period of four years. The complainant was also concerned over the content of an email he had been sent by the journalist in response to his complaint.

Resolution:

Although the newspaper did not accept that readers generally would have been misled by the article, the complaint was resolved when the newspaper acknowledged that the headline was not satisfactory, and offered to annotate its records with the complainantís concerns. The journalist also wrote to the complainant apologising for the content of his email.
