| Complainant Name: Clauses Noted: 1 Publication: The Sun Complaint: Caroline
Langdon of Reading complained about the insensitive manner
in which the newspaper had reported on the discovery of her friend’s body.
Resolution: The newspaper sought to explain that the article came to be published after it received a telephone call from a neighbour of the complainant’s friend and a reporter was sent to investigate. The managing editor accepted that the wording in the article was not as sensitive as it might have been in the circumstances. He therefore arranged for the article to be removed from the newspaper’s website and took the opportunity to remind staff of the need for great care and sensitivity when covering such stories. The
managing editor also wrote to the complainant privately to express his regret
and apologise for the distress caused by the article. The complaint was
resolved on this basis.
