Complainant Name:
Mr and Mrs D Coe and Mrs K Russell

Clauses Noted: 6

Publication: Daily Mirror

Complaint:

Mr and Mrs D Coe and Mrs K Russell of Kent complained that the newspaper had used a photograph of their children, taken outside their school, to illustrate an article about the discovery of a confidential report book. This book contained unflattering comments about some pupils; the parents were concerned that the article (especially its headline) unfairly singled out their children as the subject of those unflattering comments.

Resolution:

The complaint was resolved when the newspaper, which conceded that the use of the photograph in the context was 'a great mistake', sent a private apology to the complainants. The editor also issued instructions to the newspaper’s production team to ensure that they take greater care in future.

Report: 75
