Complainant Name:
Mr and Mrs D Coe and Mrs K Russell

Clauses Noted: 6

Publication: Daily Mirror

Mr and Mrs D Coe and Mrs K Russell of Kent complained that the newspaper had used a photograph of their children, taken outside their school, to illustrate an article about the discovery of a confidential report book. This book contained unflattering comments about some pupils; the parents were concerned that the article (especially its headline) unfairly singled out their children as the subject of those unflattering comments.

The complaint was resolved when the newspaper, which conceded that the use of the photograph in the context was 'a great mistake', sent a private apology to the complainants. The editor also issued instructions to the newspapers production team to ensure that they take greater care in future.
