Mr Benjamin Clist of Hampshire complained that a battle photograph used to illustrate an article about Passchendaele had been doctored to remove a tank and insert German soldiers.

The newspaper accepted that the image had been doctored but sought to explain that it had been published in good faith and in the belief that it was genuine. The newspaper marked its records to reflect the distortion and removed the image from its website. As a gesture of appreciation for pointing out the distortion, the newspaper also sent the complainant the books it had obtained on the subject during the course of its investigation.
