Complainant Name:
Mr David Taylor MP

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: Daily Mail

David Taylor, MP for North West Leicestershire, complained that an article was misleading because it listed him among a group of MPs who had not voted in favour of a plan to help pensioners whose retirement schemes had collapsed. While it was true that he not voted in favour, the reason for this was that he had chaired the Bill through the committee stage and was, therefore, not able to vote.

The matter was resolved when the newspaper published the following clarification under the heading David Taylor MP:

In our April 19th report on Labour MPs voting to reject the plan to rescue pensioners whose retirement schemes have collapsed ('The MPs who should hang their heads in shame') we listed David Taylor MP for North-West Leicestershire as one who abstained or did not vote. While this was correct we should have made it clear that, as chairman of the relevant standing committee scrutinising the Bill, Commons convention prevented him from voting in subsequent proceedings.
