Ms Joyce Pinfield of Bromsgrove complained that an article, which reported the claims of a man with whom she was involved in a legal dispute, was misleading. It reported the claims as if they were established facts and did not make clear that she had not attended the court hearing at which the allegations had been made (the reason for her non-attendance being that she was unaware that the hearing was taking place).

The matter was resolved when the newspaper published a follow-up article after another court hearing, at which the complainant and her partner had secured the overturning of the injunction previously obtained against them. The follow-up story made clear that the complainant had not been represented at the earlier hearing and reported the comments of the judge that the man with whom the complainant was in dispute had previously misled the court and had been proved to be a liar.
