Complainant Name:
Mrs Janet D'Acunto

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: Sunday Mail

Mrs Janet DAcunto complained on behalf of her daughter Diana that an article reporting on the death of Dianas son Leo had inaccurately claimed that he had died while he was being breastfed and that an initial post mortem was inconclusive. In fact, the post mortem showed that Leo had died of Sudden Inexplicable Infant Death syndrome.

The complaint was resolved when the newspaper published the following clarification:

On April 22 2007, the Sunday Mail reported that seven week old Leo DAcunto had died during breastfeeding and that detectives were probing his death. We wish to make it clear that a post mortem report found Leo died as a resolute of Sudden Inexplicable Infant Death. His mother Diana has not been charged with any wrongdoing.

The editor also wrote a personal letter to Diana DAcunto, and made a donation towards a memorial for Leo.
