Complainant Name:
Richard Baker

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: Daily Mirror

Complaint:

Richard Baker complained from Broadmoor that the article had inaccurately suggested that Ian Huntley had forged a “bond” with him in jail. He said he had met Ian Huntley in the gym on a few occasions but they had certainly not forged a bond. The complainant also raised concerns with the description of him as “Britain’s worst rapist” making clear that other prisoners had been convicted of more offences than him.

Resolution:

The newspaper defended the claims in the article but agreed to annotate the newspaper’s records to reflect that Ian Huntley had not, according to the complainant, forged a bond with him and that Andreou Pedro Anthia and Antoni Imiela had more convictions for rape. The complaint was resolved on that basis.

Report: 76
