Ms Angela McNab

Publication: The Sun

Complaint:

Ms Angela McNab, the Chief Executive of the Human Fertilisation and Embryo Authority, complained, through David Price Solicitors & Advocates, that an article had inaccurately suggested that a libel claim involving the HFEA left taxpayers facing a legal bill of £1 million. In fact, the claim was settled before proceedings were issued; the settlement did not involve any payment of damages or costs to the claimants.

Resolution:

The complaint was resolved when the newspaper published the following correction:

“Our article of November 10, which described the settlement of a libel claim between IVF doctor Mohamed Taranissi and the Human Fertilisation and Embryo Authority, referred to a possible legal bill of £1 million. We have been asked to make clear this figure was our estimate for the cost of an earlier judicial review and not the libel action described in the article.”
