Publication: The Mail on Sunday

Ms Angela Robinson complained, through her MP the Right Honourable John Prescott, that a freelance journalist working for the newspaper had spoken to her twelve-year-old son, at length and without the consent or presence of a parent, in his car and in the child’s home.

The complaint was resolved when the newspaper apologised and settled the matter privately with the complainant. Although the newspaper made clear that the freelance had not been instructed by the newsdesk to speak to the child, it accepted responsibility for his actions as he was an external contributor to the paper.
