Chelsea Football Club complained, through Carter-Ruck solicitors, that an article inaccurately suggested that Chelsea players had rejected a request to travel to Hull on the day of the Carling Cup match. They said that, while the manager had considered changing the travel arrangements to fly on match day, he then decided to stick to the original intention to travel the day before. They made clear that the players had not defied the manager in any way.

The complaint was resolved when the newspaper, which believed that the story had been confirmed prior to publication, published the following:

Following our article of 26th September, we have been told by Chelsea FC that their players did not reject a request by Avram Grant to travel to Hull on the day of the Carling Cup match. Mr Grant considered moving the travel plans to the day of the match, but decided that the team should fly out the evening before. We are happy to clarify this.
