Complainant Name:
Squadron Leader Mitch Webb

Clauses Noted: 1

Publication: The Sun

Complaint:

Squadron Leader Mitch Webb complained that the newspaper inaccurately claimed that she had flown missions in Afghanistan and had flirted with Prince Harry, while he was serving out there. In fact, she has never been to Afghanistan or spoken to Prince Harry and has had a ground-based role in Britain for the past two and a half years.

Resolution:

The complaint was resolved when the newspaper published the following apology:

“Following our coverage of Prince Harry’s service in Afghanistan, we would like to make clear RAF pilot Mitch Webb (nee Tompkins) has never flown missions in Afghanistan and never spoken to Prince Harry as we reported. We apologise for any distress the article has caused”.

Report: 77
